Neighborhoods Participating in "National Night Out" on August 6 can get a $100 Grant

Half Moon Bay, CA - National Night Out is the annual nationwide community-building campaign encouraging police/community partnerships and neighbor-to-neighbor connections, helping to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live.

The City of Half Moon Bay encourages local participation by inviting residents to hold block parties on Tuesday, August 6 2019 and reconnect with their neighbors. The City will help jump-start block parties by offering a $100 gift card that will help offset the costs of putting on a great neighborhood block party. The deadline to register is July 30.

This small grant to participating neighborhood teams can be used to pay for food, beverages, decorations, table and chair rental, or whatever their block party needs to be a success! The application is online at hmbcity.com/nightout, and residents may get more information or have an application sent to them by contacting Victor Gaitan at 650-750-2010 / vgaitan@hmbcity.com.

"National Night Out is a great opportunity for Half Moon Bay residents to get together, meet new people, re-connect with neighbors, and just spend some time relaxing in an informal social setting," said Half Moon Bay City Deputy Manager Matthew Chidester. "Getting to know our neighbors is good for neighborhood safety, and makes it easier for people to look out for each other - and that's great for our entire community." Depending on the number of block parties and staff availability, the City will try to schedule a visit by a Coastside Fire Protection District fire truck or San Mateo County Sheriff's vehicle. Most neighbors hold their National Night Out events between 6 and 9 pm.

On National Night Out, neighborhoods across the nation host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events. Visit the National Night Out website for more information about this nationwide effort.
